The land on which the hall stands was previously used by Broom’s Women’s Institute. Their meetings took place in a timber building which was reaching the end of its useful life.
In 1999, the WI decided that the land would be used for the benefit of the village as a whole. The new Broom Village Hall trustees took over in January 2003 and set about raising funds for a new hall. Our BVH logo resulted from a competition held as part of a day of celebrations held at the old hall in August 2003. Our thanks to all involved in producing this, and in particular to Rachel Harris for the winning design.
Building work commenced in January 2006 and was completed later that year. The new hall was officially opened at a village fete in September 2006.
The new building was made possible by a number of grants, as well as donations from villagers and others. We are grateful to them all, and to those whose time and effort helped to create, and subsequently maintain, this wonderful facility for the benefit of the village and surrounding area.
In particular, we acknowledge with thanks the grants made by the following:
- Bidford-on-Avon Parish Council
- Biffaward
- Big Lottery Fund
- DEFRA Rural Enterprise Scheme
- Dunnington Baptist Church
- Misys Charitable Foundation
- RMC Community Fund (now CEMEX Community Fund)
- South Warwickshire Housing Association (now Orbit Heart of England Housing Association)
- Stratford-on-Avon District Council
- Warwickshire County Council
- Warwickshire Environmental Trust
