Events

The hall is well used by the local community for a variety of regular and one-off events.  Weekly activities include classes or sessions for a variety of groups.  Other regular activities take place only once or twice a month.  In addition the hall hosts special events, organised by the management committee and others to help raise much needed funds for the upkeep of the hall.  Details will be added on this page as available, so check back here regularly to see what’s going on.

All of the regular activities and events are open to everyone interested.  If you would like to join in, please use the contact details provided in the lists below to find out more about them.  Or just turn up – you’ll be made to feel very welcome!

Weekly activities

Ballroom dancing

Mondays 7.00 – 9.00 pm

Pilates

Mondays 9.30 – 10.30 am

Wednesdays 6.30 – 9.00 pm

Pilates is a safe and effective body conditioning method for people of all ages.  Everybody can benefit and you don’t have to be fit or flexible.  Small classes ensure individual attention.  Cost is £8 per class, booked in 6/7 week blocks.  All mats and equipment are supplied.

Slimming world

Taekwondo – Family sessions

The Broom Fire Blazers Taekwondo class takes place on Saturday mornings from 10 – 11.30.  Taekwondo is a great way to get fit in a fun, friendly atmosphere, and to build your confidence.  This family class is open to all ages, and involves students from 5 to over 50.  It is run by the region’s biggest martial arts school, the Championship winning London Chinatown TaeKwonDo.

Yoga

Thursdays 11 – 12 am and 6 – 7 pm

The art of yoga is the discipline of body, breath and mind.  Each class includes postures, breathing practices and meditation.  This gentle approach is suitable for everyone, all you need is a yoga mat and comfortable clothing.

Sessions cost £45 for 6, newcomers are welcome at any time.  Classes are led by senior qualified teacher and therapist Su Bough.  For further information please contact her on 01789 269637, or by email at sbough@btinternet.com.

Other regular activities

Broom’s brew – Coffee mornings

Pop in to have a chat and a laugh with old friends, and make new ones, at these regular monthly coffee mornings at the hall.  You can also browse a selection of second hand books.  Everyone is very welcome, from the young to the elderly.

Meetings are normally held on the last Wednesday in each month, from 10.30 am – 12 noon.

Dunnington Baptist Church

Dunnington Baptist Church meetings offer you a warm welcome at the Village Hall on the first & third Sunday morning each month at 10.30 am.  We are a small, friendly fellowship including people of all ages, mainly drawn from the local community.

Film nights – Rural cinema

Films for children and adults, usually on the second Friday of each month.

Wednesday @ 3

An informal afternoon where you can meet and make friends, on the second Wednesday of each month.  There is usually a guest speaker on a topic of interest that often includes an audio visual presentation or slide show.  Light refreshments are served.

Special events

Black Country evening – 24 February

An evening of entertainment featuring Black Country humour.  Doors open 7.15pm for a 7.30 start.  Seating will be on tables of eight.  Faggots, mash and mushy peas served at approx. 8.30pm, followed by more entertainment.  All for only £12 per ticket!  Licensed bar throughout.  Vegetarian food option available.

Ceilidh – 17 March

We will be holding our next ceilidh on Saturday 17 March, when the well-known local band, Herbal Remedy, will be playing a mixture of English, Scottish, Irish and American barn dances.  The evening is suitable for all ages, and no experience is necessary, as the band includes a caller who explains all the moves before (and during!) each dance.  The emphasis is all about joining in, and enjoying yourself – so come along for a fun evening.

Entry will be by ticket purchased in advance only.  Tickets for this event always sell out fast, so get yours straight away, from either Cheryl Hendey (01789 773825) or Mark Preston (01789 772890).

Tickets cost £8.50, to include a ploughman’s plate at half-time, to keep you going!  There will be a licensed bar throughout, as
well as soft drinks available.  Doors open at 7.30 pm.
